The World's Inspiration

VFSKA NEWS From the Weirdest of Places Comes the Best of Advice The World's Inspiration Many authors travel, take vacations, and find inspiration somewhere during that journey. Other authors simply stay in their own backyards. But what all authors need is inspiration. Where do you get the ideas you use to create your works? Imagination is one factor. You imagine, create an alternate universe. But other authors don't just imagine; they add fact, taking things to the next level.  Take a science lesson, for example. Sure, you're learning things that don't have anything to do with the world of fiction. But the VFSKA has actually used a science lesson to get an idea for a story! Take space. We learned that some of the stars we see today have actually already died, but their light is still traveling, because the stars are millions of lightyears away. So what if there was another planet, in another galaxy, or even further away? An extremely advanced planet, and there is some...

Works Cited

VFSKA LEARNING When your teacher asks you what websites you used and you can finally remember them... Works Cited When you're researching something for an essay, you need to cite the website you use, for many reasons.       1.  You gotta give them credit for helping you with your work      2. You need to remember where you got all that information      3. You need to let your readers know where you got that information           so they can do their own research      4. You want to avoid plagiarism      5. Your work seems more realistic and you look more knowledgeable           because it shows you've done your research and are backed by            experts.  And many more! There are also many different ways to cite your work. For example,  some common ones are:       1. MLA...

Credible Sources

VFSKA LEARNING Don't fall for fake news... Credible Sources When you're researching something, you should make sure it's true.  How do you do that? There are many ways you can, but a few include: Checking the URL:  if it ends in .org, .edu, or .gov, it's probably more safe than .com and .net sites. Https://  : This means that it uses a Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) to encrypt your communication with the site. When reading it, check for bias:  if you're reading it and it sounds biased, then stop reading it! It's probably bending the facts a little bit, or only showing you  part  of the facts, instead of the whole. Country codes:  sites like .uk or .au (From the United Kingdom or Australia) might have really good information, but you also have to be careful because they might be regulated differently.  We always advise that if you're using this for a school project, you  should check with your teacher , and make sure what you're reading is...

VFSKA NEWS Read like you mean it, darling Favorite books The VFSKA reads a variety of books, their genres ranging from fiction to, well, nonfiction. What types of books do you like to read? Many of us prefer fiction and science fiction over biographies and other nonfiction books. However, we enjoy reading in general, practically as much as we do writing! What types of books do you like to read? Maybe historical fiction, in between fiction and history, or even fantasy? How about mysteries, poetry, romance, or even comics? Whatever you like to read is welcome. Comment below about your favorite genre!

Personification

VFSKA LEARNING An object, a person, a type of figurative language... Personification A personification is when a writer gives objects human-like abilities.  Some of these abilities are not as human-like, such as: the kite flew  through the sky. Others include: the fork danced across the tabletop with the rolling of the waves. But you know that it's a personification because  both the kite and the fork are doing things that are normally done by  living things, instead of inanimate objects.    Create your own personification! We can't wait to see what you've come  up with. Post your creations in the comments below!
